3. Choose Conscious Fashion Over Fashion Conscious
Fashion
is a major part of the lifestyle we lead and being fashionable is the choice we
make. Every buying decision, every piece of clothing in our wardrobe is a
choice but, who is to say that we have made the right decision? There is so
much going on in the fashion industry that many of us are not aware of. Fast
Fashion is one of those things.
Rapidly-changing
fashion trends and the consumer’s desire of having each and every popular style
has given birth to the concept of fast fashion. We as consumers have become so
fashion-conscious that we put too much thought and money into what we wear,
which is not wrong, but considering its impact on the environment, maybe it is!
Fast fashion is basically fashion which changes with the rapidly-changing
trends and focuses on speed and low cost. These type of clothing don’t have
much wardrobe life. They are mainly focused on making the fashion available
from ramp to the market at a much cheaper rate. The vibrant colours, designs
and novelty makes the apparels all the more appealing and leads to an impulsive
buying decision.
Fast
fashion eventually leads to too many clothes without much utility which is
extremely harmful to the environment. Textile dyeing is the second biggest
polluter of clean water universally, after agriculture. This kind of fashion
causes immense water pollution, and non-disposable textile waste. Conscious
fashion is the resolve to all these problems. Also known as ethical fashion or sustainable fashion,
conscious fashion has been exercised by many brands and has recently gained
popularity because of the dominant issue of climate change.
Conscious
fashion is basically investing more into organic and environment-friendly
apparels which has longer wardrobe life rather than making buying decisions
that are harmful to the environment. This concept has recently gained
popularity as many brands have launched products in support of the cause and
multiple influencers have also spoken about the concept time and again to
create awareness. Some of the brands such as Upasana, No Nasties, Ba No Batwo,
Brown boy, House of wandering silk, Ethicus, etc are great examples of conscious
fashion in India.
Keeping
the current environmental and climate change issues in mind, it is now high
time to start indulging in conscious fashion instead of being fashion
conscious. It is very crucial to realize that our each and every buying
decision when it comes to apparels has a direct impact on the environment and
then decide in favour of mankind.
