48. Rock those curves with pride

For the past few days something strange has been happening continuously, on every digital platform that I visit I find advertisements of how to lose weight fast to get the perfect figure. I laughed it off as a joke the first few times but it really got me thinking afterwards. Thankfully, my thoughts were not about how I really need to lose weight because I am perfectly satisfied with the way I look, but rather, it got me thinking about what are the standards for that ‘perfect body’ and why do we feel the need to obtain those.

Body shaming is one of the most common forms of offence that people who don’t have the ‘perfect body’ face. It comes in different forms, sometimes insult, a mere statement or as a joke. None of which is acceptable and should not be tolerated. We sometimes don’t even realise what a joke can do to the person’s confidence and feelings. Fat shaming is the most common side of body shaming. Skinny shaming is as bad and practiced as often but not necessarily considered as an insult by the offenders.

There is no such thing as a ‘perfect body’. Each and every person looks different, has a unique body. So, why is there a need for us to qualify other’s or even our own body type as perfect and imperfect?

Why can’t I be curvey and beautiful at the same time?

What is stopping us from owning the way we look with pride?

Obesity or lack thereof becomes a problem not because it doesn’t match the society’s beauty standards but rather when it becomes a threat to our health. Exercise not to become skinny but rather to stay fit and healthy.

You get to decide the way you lead your life. So, decide if you want to rock your curves, own up to those slender beautiful legs and carry everything that you are with confidence.

Believe me, your words may not scare away the offender from saying something negative but your confidence will. Confidence alone speaks volume!
